DEAR READER, WELCOME TO ISSUE 11 OF THE PECKHAM PECULIAR, A FREE LOCAL NEWSPAPER FOR PECKHAM AND NUNHEAD.
We launched The Peckham Peculiar in January last year after 150 generous people from Peckham, Nunhead and further afield donated £5,000 on crowdfunding website Kickstarter to help us print the first two issues.

Peckham Vision, the Rye Lane Traders’ Association and Copeland Park have teamed up to launch the community initiative, which is supported with a small grant from Southwark Council.
A new Peckham writing map with free walks and talks will offer people a chance to meet other local writers, and there will be salons dedicated to topics including death, sex and procrastination.

Naturally, there was a desire to call this review ‘Peckham, the Peli and Me’ but since we’re not into naming reviews here, we’ll just have to stick with the buttoned-up, regular old Peckham Pelican.
And why wouldn’t we, that’s the name donned by this super-boho café/bar on Peckham Road.Housed in a warehouse-style block, expect to find concrete floors, battered chesterfields, huge windows and plenty of salvaged wood scattered with liberal amounts of art school attitude – in a good way.Salads?
For anyone who has ever dreamed of the stoop life after watching Boyz N The Hood a few too many times, the epic signature Peckham Pelican American-style 40oz beer bottle is for you.Aside from the giddiness we’re getting from those big beers, the Peckham Pelican also boasts a healthy range of arts to get excited about.
Theatre, literature, experimental music, indie films; the Pelican fits all this into its multifaceted, metaphorical beak pouch.
And who wouldn’t want to go eat, drink and get arty in a beak pouch?
